PSEG is committed to the growth of the communities where we work and operate. On October 12th, representatives from PSEG attended Bridgeport’s Cardinal Shehan Center Celebrity Breakfast to listen to guest speaker Lesley Stahl, a correspondent with 60 minutes. The event is one of Cardinal Shehan Center’s major fundraisers, all proceeds support the Center’s After School and Saturday program. The Cardinal Shehan Center is a non-profit organization located in Bridgeport that offers programs and activities that address the educational, recreational, cultural, and social needs of moderate and low-income families and young people. PSEG recognizes the importance of education and is happy to support the Cardinal Shehan Center’s mission to enrich lives through learning.

At PSEG, safety is always first. On October 11, 2017 Bridgeport Harbor station Unit 5 hosted a lunch for all project workers to celebrate 100,000 safe hours worked. Workers socialized while enjoying Ethan’s Grill famous jerk chicken. We believe putting safety first is the key to long-term success. With the giving season quickly approaching, PSEG is getting a head start by providing support to Connecticut Police Work Dog Association (CPWDA), a non-profit organization that provides K9 training, annual re-certification, assistance with veterinary and protective gear for over 150 K-9 units throughout CT. PSEG is dedicated to ensuring its workers and communities they serve with a safe and healthy environment. We are happy to support CPWDA mission to enhance the training, education and overall working performance of our police canine teams.

On Monday October 16th, the PSEG’S Bill Gerardi and Mark Pereira along with their construction team, traded their tools for clubs and practiced their swing at the Laborers’ Union Local 665 Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament. The day was spent in good fun to support the Laborers Union Local 655 which represents local construction and public service employees. Funds raised will support Laborer’s Union Charitable Foundation which provides support to Connecticut communities. As a company who is dedicated to its employees and community, PSEG proudly supports local unions.

The annual Barnum Festival is the signature celebration of everything “Bridgeport.” As a partner in the community, PSEG is proud to support the Festival and is excited about next year! The festival originated in 1948, to help support local businesses and honor world-renowned showman and city leader, P.T. Barnum. PSEG, who hosts a float in the festival, along with other sponsors support the grand festival to keep it going and growing every year. The festival consists of the weekend-long “Barnum Palooza” featuring parades, concerts, fireworks, and other family-friendly festivities. Ringmaster Terry O’Connor, executive director of the Cardinal Shehan Center and the McGivney Community Center, stated that the emphasis of this year’s 69th annual festival is to promote and engage children in community events. On September 30, 2017 Mrs. Opal Crosdale, President of the West Indian American Association of Greater Bridgeport (WIAAGB), and Mr. Noel Anderson presented PSEG with the Distinguished Corporate Service Award. This award is in recognition and appreciation for PSEG’s unwavering support towards the continued success of the WIAAGB. The WIAAGB provides support to people with inadequate resources, limited opportunities and promotes the Caribbean culture and education in the Greater Bridgeport area.

As a company where safety is our primary concern, PSEG tries to instill the same value into the communities we serve. For the past 3 years, PSEG has partnered with Bridgeport Hospital, Channel 8 news, Home Depot, and Kiddie Fire Safety to make safety a community priority. These partnerships help to raise awareness for fire prevention by holding workshops for kids and distributing free smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to local fire departments with the help of the Operation Save a Life Campaign. Operation Save a Life is a partnership between Kiddie Fire Safety and ABC Television. This public service campaign dedicated to educating the general public about the dangers of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
