January 2018

On Monday January 15th, the cities Bridgeport and New Haven came together for a basketball showdown at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. PSEG teamed up with The Fairfield County Board of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc. (IAABO Board 9) to sponsor the Fourth Annual Martin Luther King Classic basketball tournament. The Martin Luther King Classic basketball tournament is a daylong celebration of peace, perseverance and basketball. The classic style basketball tournament was comprised of 10 teams from the two rival cities. Throughout the tournament, videos displaying Dr. King’s most memorable moments were played to celebrate his life and players even read some of Dr. King’s speeches. Here at PSEG, we value Dr. King’s contribution to society. We are #PSEGProud.

Hey Bridgeport, are you Ready2Work? Today we launched our first Ready2Work class, a half-million-dollar private investment in Bridgeport residents, including minorities, women and veterans; the first class of 10 people consisted of six from our own Bridgeport community. The students received detailed information on the course, what to expect and the steps ahead.    PSEG’s apprenticeship readiness training program consists of five classes over a 14-month period. The program aims to prepare students for potential apprenticeships in the various building trades. Students will develop basic skills to prepare them for the trade of their choice and will receive individualized attention to help them succeed.   PSEG is invested in the city of Bridgeport and its residents. Spots are still open to train for a high-paying union apprenticeship at no cost. We encourage anyone interested in construction that lives in Bridgeport to APPLY NOW!

Participants played a full 18 holes of golf while enjoying refreshments and an award dinner to follow that evening. The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the state’s only Burn Center. In fact, it reaches the highest standards in accordance with the American Burn Association and the American College of Surgeons and is one of the only 62 verified Burn Centers in the United States. The Burn Center treats nearly 200 inpatients and receives more than 800 outpatient visits each year.
