Bridgeport Harbor Station 5’s Grand Opening

On Monday, July 29, 2019, Bridgeport and state officials gathered at PSEG’s Bridgeport Harbor Station Unit #5 to “Flip that Switch”. The flip of an oversized light switch symbolized the official opening of PSEG’s natural gas-powered Bridgeport Harbor Station 5.

PSEG Power Connecticut began construction of the clean, natural gas-fired plant in 2017. The plant represents an investment of more than $550 million and needed energy supply to the Connecticut region. The 485-megawatt combined-cycle plant went online and available to provide energy to thousands of homes and businesses in Connecticut on June 25, 2019. The natural gas-powered Bridgeport Harbor Station 5 delivers on this vision with one of the lowest carbon footprints per megawatt of energy produced among all PSEG Power’s fossil units.

The project also had a positive economic impact, adding hundreds of union construction jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment into the city of Bridgeport. Mayor Joe Ganim said during the grand opening ceremony, “It’s not often where you’re able to gather a public-private partnership on multiple levels and as a result see so many positives come out of it.” PSEG Power is proud of the impact we’ve had on the lives of the residents we serve by supporting numerous community service and cultural organizations in the city.
