PSEG Donates to Homes for the Brave Fall Event

PSEG is proud to be a platinum level sponsor for Homes for the Brave’s (HFTB) Step Out for the Brave event. For more than 115 years, PSEG and its employees have been giving back to the communities where they live and work. For this event, PSEG has donated pre-paid slots to the Step Out for the Brave 40,000 Step Virtual Challenge in August. These paid slots cover 15 complimentary registrations for the Bridgeport, Connecticut organization. Each registration for the event helps HFTB continue its mission to house homeless veterans and to support the staff that makes this possible. PSEG’s generous contribution will also fund staffing needs for the event as well as event t-shirts. A larger team of staff and participants are expected for this year’s Step Out for the Brave event. PSEG’s donation supports HFTB’s mission to help homeless people, most of whom are Veterans, return to independence.

“We could not have been more thrilled for the support we’ve received from our neighbors here at PSEG. We’re right around the corner pretty much and this helps us in so many ways. They are
going to be the top sponsorship level this August at our Step Out for the Brave event. It’s done virtually, it’ll be global, and we can’t wait to increase our participant number this year over last.” said CEO/Executive Director, Vincent Santilli, from Homes for the Brave.

Annually, HFTB hosts the Step Out for the Brave Stair Climb, which draws hundreds of people from across Connecticut and beyond. This year, the event is national and invites all ages to participate. Homes for the Brave’s 2020 event, Step Out for the Brave, will be conducted Saturday August 8,2020 – August 16,2020. Participants will have 9 days to complete 40,000 steps individually or with a group. Each step taken is a step toward helping a homeless Veteran.

In the past two years, the event was hosted at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Participants were highly competitive and engaged in stepping all around the arena. Last year, 366 individuals took part in the Step Out for the Brave stair climb. Homes for the Brave is hoping to increase this year’s participant number to 500.

Due to previous success with this annual event, HFTB made sure Step Out for the Brave could be held, despite COVID-19. Keeping the pandemic in mind, the event needed to be altered. This year’s event will be hosted remotely, which will invite more participants and allow them to engage safely at a respective social distance. With PSEG’s contribution, t-shirts will be provided and can either be picked up at the arena or via mail.

Participants across the world are encouraged to use their smartwatches or fitness trackers to aid them when counting their steps. The event will follow an honor system and the participant with the most steps will be announced on social media.

Assisting the communities in which we serve is at the core of our values at PSEG. We are happy to see an organization such as Homes for the Brave continuing such a great tradition to benefit homeless veterans. We can’t wait to be part of this event and hope you too can join us and contribute steps for our veterans virtually.
