PSEG Receives Bridgeport NAACP Economic Development Award
PSEG continually strives to provide opportunities for residents of the Bridgeport community. On Friday, October 26th, PSEG was honored to receive the Economic Development Award from the Greater Bridgeport National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) at their annual Freedom Fund Awards Dinner.
The Economic Development Award is given to corporate community members who provide opportunities that promote civil rights for people in the Greater Bridgeport area. The construction of the Unit 5 Project has given MVVBE businesses and suppliers an unprecedented opportunity in our City. As a result of outreach and community cooperation, over 42% of the available spend has been committed to such businesses. Additionally, on the job site, we have recorded over 1.3 million work hours as of October 26th, with between 33% and 28% of those hours being fulfilled by under-served populations in the skilled union construction trades.
The Greater Bridgeport NAACP is part of the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization and is committed to equality and justice for all. The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
PSEG will continue its corporate commitments to diversity and inclusion and is humbled to be recognized for the positive impact that the Unit 5 Project is having on the community and will continue to provide equal opportunities to all the city’s and region’s residents.
