BULLARD HAVENS TECHNICAL SCHOOL STUDENTS LEARN MORE ABOUT BH5
Bridgeport, CT- On Monday, November 6th, students from Bullard Havens Technical School enjoyed a presentation provided by PSEG and the mechanical contractor for the Unit 5 Combined Cycle Power Plant Project, Shelby Mechanical.
Brian Galbraith, project manager for BH5, discussed some of the technical aspects to the BH5 project. Phil Walsack, site superintendent for Shelby Mechanical, gave students an overview of their role as mechanical contractor at the BH5 site as well as their partnership with local workforce from Local 777 Plumbers and Pipefitters. A representative from Local 777, John Higgins, was also in attendance to provide insight on opportunities such as their apprenticeship program.
Gregory Dziczek, a Pipefitter out of Local 777, then conducted a demonstration of the heat fusion welding machine used at the BH5 site. Interested students were given proper safety equipment in order to operate the heat fusion welding machine. Students enjoyed the hands-on experience and then were given the opportunity for a Q&A session with Shelby representatives. PSEG representative Karl Wintermeyer, wrapped up the presentation discussing the plant’s overall engineering and design.
